Why is At-Bristol asking for donations on top of the entry fee?
The rules governing Gift Aid on admissions to charitable attractions like us
have changed from April 2006. The Government's new rules state that we're
only able to claim Gift Aid on daily admission tickets if visitors donate at
least 10% more than the standard admission fee.
What is Gift Aid?
It's an Inland Revenue scheme which allows charities to reclaim the basic
rate tax you've paid as a UK taxpayer - an extra 28p for every £1 of the
total paid. It makes a massive difference to charities like us.
Why should I make a donation?
At-Bristol’s mission is making science accessible to all. Donations will
help us in our work, and if you're a UK taxpayer, will also enable us to
claim Gift Aid from the government.
Who is eligible for Gift Aid?
Everybody is welcome to make a donation to At-Bristol, but only UK taxpayers
can fill in a Gift Aid declaration when they do so.
We really appreciate your support and under no circumstances will this data
be used for marketing purposes.
Where does the money go?
While Explore is the public face of At-Bristol, there is always a
vital core of educational work going on behind the scenes - all of it highly
valued by the huge number of schools and community groups who visit. By
feeding curiosity about science, natural history and the environment,
At-Bristol has established itself as one of the UK's most successful science
centres and providers of informal education. This is achieved through a
variety of public and community programmes, curriculum-linked workshops and
teacher resources.
Does Gift Aid apply to Memberships?
These new rules only apply to daily admission tickets. Charitable
attractions are still able to claim Gift Aid on annual memberships as
before, ie without a 10% donation.
Has the Gift Aid scheme changed for all charities?
The rules have only changed for charities that open to the public for an
admission fee.
If you have any further questions about Gift Aid when you visit please ask
any member of At-Bristol staff who will be happy to help. Alternatively if
you require further information prior to visiting us then please do not
hesitate to call 0117 915 5000.
