Teacher Information - before your visit

Coaches and transport
Coaches can drop off at the rear of the Explore building. Coach parking is available on the neighbouring Canon’s Marsh site. Limited parking can be provided for minibuses for those with special educational needs – please contact Helen Featherstone on 0117 9157 120 if this is required.

Please be aware that if you arrive in the morning, city centre traffic can be congested so allow plenty of time for your journey. Please try to let us know of the earliest opportunity if you will be more than 10 minutes late.

On arrival
Please take your confirmation letter to the Information desk in Explore and collect your pre-printed tickets. A member of staff will welcome your group and brief students.

Coats and bags
There are trolleys in which to leave coats and bags. At-Bristol staff will allocate each group a trolley at the time of arrival and this can be accessed for lunch.

During your visit
Explainer staff (in purple shirts) are available to help you make the most of your visit and are happy to answer questions.

Lunches
Schools who are attending Naturally Newton over the lunch period are asked to bring packed lunches. Snacks and drinks can be purchased from the cafés and vending machines on site.

Shops
At-Bristol has two shops, one in Explore, the other in Wildwalk. Both sell a range of exciting and novel educational toys, books and ‘pocket money’ souvenirs. Please allow extra time if your students might want to visit the shops.

Accessibility
The buildings are fully accessible to wheelchair users and some areas have induction loops. Please discuss any special educational needs with Helen Featherstone on 0117 9157 120.

Your role
This project would not be possible without the help of teachers and their students. In order to evaluate this project thoroughly we'd welcome your views, comments, and observations on many different aspects. Similarly, the students’ opinions on the experience will be gathered.

Filming
We will be making a video as part of the project in particular 'vox-pops', the students conducting experiments, and comments from accompanying adults. Therefore for some, but not all, sessions a cameraperson will be present during the activities.

Numbers of adults
If your students are 16 or under you will need to bring at least one adult for every 10 students.

Rules and responsibilities
At-Bristol provides a safe and stimulating educational environment. Staff are on hand to help you make the most of your visit and provide first aid assistance if required. Lost students will be looked after at the Information desks until they are collected.

Please remember that students remain the responsibility of school staff and accompanying adults at all times. Please do not leave students unaccompanied in the exhibitions or auditoriums.

We respectfully act that students don't:
• Run or climb within the buildings.
• Shout or scream.
• Damage the plants or scare the animals.
