Team South West gets set for Olympic Day!

Team South West has joined up with harbourside tourist attraction, Explore-At-Bristol, to help local people celebrate Olympic Day on Monday (June 23).

The popular discovery centre will be offering free entry for 3-15-year-olds to its fitness-themed exhibition, LoveSport, as part of a regional scheme to get everyone ready for the London Olympics in 2012.

The At-Bristol Olympic Day is one of many events across the region that have been organised by Team South West, which is funded by the South West RDA and Sport England. Olympic Day is part of an ongoing campaign by Team South West to secure a long-lasting Olympic legacy for the region.

Donna Speed, Commercial Operations Director, At-Bristol, said: “If you can’t wait until 2012 to celebrate the London Olympics, come down to Explore-At Bristol and take part in Olympic Day instead!

“Our LoveSport exhibition makes sport fun for everyone and to prove what good sports we are, we will be offering free entrance on Olympic Day for 3-15-year-olds quoting the word “Athens” at the ticket desk,” she explains.

Olympic Day (June 23) marks the anniversary of when Frenchman, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, began the task of creating the modern day Olympic Games on June 23 1894. The Baron was responsible for reviving the ancient games and starting the international Olympic movement. He also oversaw the formation of the first Olympic committee, which organised the inaugural modern day Olympic Games in Athens in 1896.

Guy Lavender, Team South West Director, said: “LoveSport is everything that sport should be – accessible, challenging, healthy and fun and most of all – for everyone! Part of our South West lasting legacy from the London 2012 Games is to encourage everyone to participate and get active - here in Explore-At-Bristol you can try out a range of sports or take a look at some of the great exhibits.”

Donna Speed adds: “There is something for everyone at LoveSport; from scoring a goal in our Penalty Pressure exhibit, to practising your slam dunk at the Hectic Hoops basketball and going the distance in the Tour de France cycling challenge.

“For those preferring a less energetic visit, there is the chance to take a closer look at some amazing inventions in the sports world which have helped to produce record-breaking competitors,” she said.

The Explore-At-Bristol Olympic Day ticket promotion is only valid on June 23 for children aged 3-15-years-old accompanied by a full paying adult. Terms and conditions apply. For more information, contact the At-Bristol booking line on 0845 345 1235.
