Explore-At-Bristol gears up super September!
POPULAR tourist attraction Explore-At-Bristol will be
undergoing a major refurbishment next month as it prepares for one of its
busiest exhibition seasons since opening.
The two-week long project will see the arrival of two new exhibitions, Eye
for Colour and Big Bang, as well as a special exhibition for the under 8s,
In the Jungle. Alongside the new installations, Explore-At-Bristol’s foyer
area will be revamped to create a more open plan space and improve access
to visitors.
The extent of the building work means that the harbourside attraction will
be shut to the public between September 8 –19 (inclusive).
Dr Goéry Delacôte, CEO of Explore-At-Bristol, explains: “It is a very
exciting time for us as we prepare for one of our busiest exhibition
seasons yet. The refurbishment is part of our ongoing commitment to offer
people the best Explore-At-Bristol experience and offer them something new
every time they visit.
“I would like to extend our thanks to visitors and members for their
co-operation during this period and we look forward to welcoming everyone
back to see our new look foyer and exhibitions when we reopen on 20
September,” he adds.
News of the refurbishment follows one of the busiest August months on
record for the science discovery centre, with visitor numbers up by more
than 30% on the previous year.
With the arrival of three exciting exhibitions, Commercial Operations
Director, Donna Speed, expects this trend to continue. “After the
reopening, Explore-At-Bristol will have a fantastic range of exhibitions
on offer; from special exhibitions for the under 8’s, In the Jungle and
Jet set, go to our dazzling exhibition Eye for Colour, there will be
something for all ages.
“Of particular interest is our new exhibition, Big Bang, which will offer
visitors a unique insight into one of the greatest and most expensive
scientific experiments the world has ever seen,” Donna explains.
Known as the CERN (European Organisation for Nuclear Research) Big Bang
experiment, the experiment will see scientists in Geneva recreating the
moment after the Big Bang using a gigantic particle accelerator, known as
the Large Hadron Collider.
“The CERN experiment is sure to generate a lot of media coverage and our
Big Bang exhibition is a great opportunity for people to learn more about
this fascinating subject in a fun and accessible way,” Donna adds.
Explore-At-Bristol’s Science Café event, held at Theory Café, will still
take place on 9 September at 8pm. Dr Colin Dayan, Consultant Senior
Lecturer in Medicine and Head of Clinical Research, URCN at the Henry
Wellcome Laboratories for Integrative Neuroscience and Endocrinology,
University of Bristol, will be discussing the ethical and legal basis for
conducting experiments on people.
