Children of the 90s - also known as The Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents
and Children (ALSPAC) aims to identify ways to optimise the health and
development of children. The Citizen Science At-Bristol - Children of the
90s summer challenge was a great opportunity for the young people to
express their views about future scientific developments using film.
The participants were selected through a postcard competition (visit
the gallery of winning entrys). The summer school week was then put
together to give young people information and inspiration to develop their
own ideas and views about contemporary science issues and explore the
areas that they were interested in for the future. The young production
teams took on the roles of producer, director, researcher, editor, camera
person interviewers and actors.
Using media and science experts to support them each team developed their
own short film. The topic of science from the future allowed young people
to be creative about their exploration of these issues. All of the films
created were screened in At-Bristol’s giant IMAX Theatre with an invited
audience including the young people's production teams, supporting
directors, friends, family, teachers and the Children from the 90’s team.

At-Bristol's web
programmer then took the films created by the three teams and edited them
to create
