Brain Games - Belfast

W5 (whowhatwherewhenwhy) was the Belfast setting for our Northern Ireland Brain Games. This venue proved inspiring for our local Belfast teams. Teaming up with students from 6 different schools we had very strong competition resulting in a diverse range of games. Teams took part in specially designed Brain Trails at W5 investigating how they use their brain to make sense of the puzzlels and games

The project was run in partnership with the W5 education team with mentors from Team W5 and think differently. Local Judges from Education Library Board and Sue McGrath, Education manager at W5 took part in the showdown at the end of the week.

Teams came up with a variety of different types of games including one inspired by the massive yellow Harland & Wolff cranes that can be see from W5 in the Belfast shipyard. This game, from the elevators, named the 13th Floor was particularly noted by the judges for the original use of luck as the theme of the game.

A final decision had to be made for the top Belfast Brain Game. This accolade was given to the ‘Brainy Bunch’ for their game ‘Pentaforce’. Pentaforce is a computer game in which each team member has to use their individual strengths to overcome different challenges in different parts of the Pentaforce maze. Aiming to meet with the rest of the team at the centre of the pentaforce puzzle. If all team members make it to the meeting point the final challenge will allow them to escape from the maze.
