Brain Games - Cardiff
| 30
children from 7 local Cardiff schools took part in Wales Brain
Games. This five day workshop was held 2nd – 6th
December 2002 at the Local design and technology centre with
presentations taking place at the National Museum and Gallery of
Wales at the end of the week.
Teams of
students were supported by local mentors from Techniquest and
local Teacher training college as well as expert games advisors
from At-Bristol. |

The
Welsh teams were eager to show that we had saved the best till last in
this final stage of the Brain Games Phase 2. Games they created
included ‘Fighting for Freedom’ a house of horrors in which TV
celebrities had to escape by overcoming physical and mental challenges
in each room of the house. However in the end SMCGST creators of
‘fighting for freedom’ were beaten in the last stages by the code
crackers who’s game ‘Its only a fairy tail’ impressed the judges with
‘strong model, complex rules and engaging prototype design’. The
strong team working skills that this team developed over the week lead
them to triumph.

Judging
the final games were the Course coordinator for the Techniquest
communicating science MSc. Head of the local St. Mary the Virgin
Primary school in Cardiff, and the Head of Education and
Programmes at At-Bristol. Sholls were so impressed with the
effort the teams had made that they all sent along their head
teachers on the last day to find out who the winning team would
be. |
