Brain Games - Home

Brain Games is a creative learning programme for Year 5 - 9 pupils (10-14 year olds). The programme has been designed by At-Bristol and delivered with partners across the UK.

Pupils work in teams of five throughout the week. Each team has an adult mentor. Their challenge is to create a Brain Game - any game that makes the players think. The teams are supported by an intensive programme of workshops and activities designed to help them reach their final goal. There are six main elements to the Brain Games programme:

  • Learning about the brain – What does the brain do? Why is it so important?
  • Learning about team working – Students develop new relationships with other team members and reflect on their team working skills.
  • Learning about game development – Students build their own criteria for evaluation of ‘what makes a good game?’ and look at how new games are developed.
  • Learning key skills – including communication, team work, problem solving, creative and critical thinking, planning and investigation. Literacy and numeracy are also supported.
  • Learning about learning – pupils reflect on their learning throughout the week.
  • Learning about careers – pupils meet a range of adults including games developers, neuroscientists, TV game show producers.
  • Learning to enjoy learning – raising motivation and self-esteem are key.

Brain Activity – look at some of the activities involved in the week and view a sample of games created by the teams link.

Brain Building – do your own brain research here on-line and find out how you use your brain when playing different games.
