Brain Games - North Tyneside

For the first of our Brain Games events outside of Bristol 32 students from ‘the Gifted and Talented strand of North Tyneside Excellence in Cities Partnership’ gathered from 13 differnet local schools to face the Brain Games Challenge.

Held from 1-5 July 2002 in North Tyneside, in Longbenton City Learning Centre, a superb computing facility the project included visits to the local science centre ‘Centre for Life’ and was supported by local games company ‘Reflections Interactive’ and local mentors. The North Tyneside ‘brain gamers’ soon proved they had the brain power and creativity to produce games to rival our Bristol teams.

The sessions were run by the At-Bristol project co-ordinator with support from the local partner Claire Johnson (Gifted and Talented Strand Co-ordinator for North Tyneside EiC Partnership).

Four judges attended on the final day to judge the work produced and the presentations and select winners. Judges were Claire Johnson, Gifted and Talented Strand Coordinator for North Tyneside EiC Partnership, Martin Oliver, Reflections Interactive, Kevin Willis, Head of School Services for North Tyneside and Jean Griffiths, Senior Inspector for Secondary Education, North Tyneside.

Over 40 parents organised to watch the presentations and view the material produced.
