Answer to reaction time - Brain Games

When you see your friend let go of the paper, the message has to travel from your eyes to your brain to be analysed. Then the message telling your hand to catch it has to travel all the way down to the end of your arm This all takes time and by the time the message reaches your fingers, you've missed the paper.
