An Evening with At-Bristol is a hit with local businesses
Mon 18 October 2010
On Thursday 14 October, At-Bristol, the science centre on Bristol’s harbourside, welcomed nearly 100 local businesses through its doors for a special evening of science and discovery.
The ‘An Evening with At-Bristol’ event run jointly with GWE Business West was organised to celebrate the science centre’s 10th year of fulfilling its charity mission of ‘making science accessible to all’. It was also hoped that the event would better inform Bristol’s business community of the work that the science centre delivers on a local, nationally and internationally scale.
Attendees at the event ranged from digital media companies, local hotels and attractions to recruitment agencies, finance, banking and other enterprises. Among those represented were the Environment Agency, Lloyds TSB, Destination Bristol and Avon and Somerset Police.
Corporate guests not only had the opportunity to network over drinks and canapés, but were also able to get interactive with At-Bristol’s 300 exhibits and were offered the opportunity to take a trip around the universe and discover stars, planets and giant galaxies in a special presenter-led Planetarium show – all in a day’s work.
Tours were also given of At-Bristol’s venue hire suite, which offers impressive views over both Millennium Square and Bristol Cathedral. Corporate events and conferences hosted by At-Bristol this year include the Sky News Media Hub during the Election Debate for the General Elections and a special visit from Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg in August. Other events at the science centre have included the search for Bristol’s Next Top Model and a Star Trek themed wedding in the Planetarium.
Donna Speed, Head of Commercial Operations for At-Bristol said: “An enjoyable evening was had by all, we were very pleased with the positive turnout and the interest and enthusiasm in the science centre. It was extremely satisfying to see so many adults having fun on the exhibits. We have had many positive Tweets about the event and look forward to welcoming local businesses back to At-Bristol soon. Our thanks to GWE Business West for their support too”
Among the comments received by At-Bristol from those who attended the networking event were:
Nathan Cornish, Co-founder of Timto, said: “At-Bristol is absolutely superb and I will definitely visit with my family in half term”
Code 9 Design on a twitter feed said: Team out in force for networking last night, At-Bristol with GWE Business West. Loved it!
Market Dojo also tweeted “Big thanks to everyone at At-Bristol last night. Fantastic event, met lots of interesting people and what a great place to visit!”
