Fossils and funny
bones
A special exhibition for the under 8s
|
In Explore from 15 September 2007 - 30 June 2008
Go on a journey of discovery through time! A brand new interactive
exhibition specifically designed for children under eight and their
carers, Fossils and funny bones lets children explore our
prehistoric world through imaginative play and hands-on activities.
Split into themed areas and including role-play with dinosaur
costumes, physical play, story-telling around a campfire and fossil
finding activities, the
exhibition lets children find out more about the creatures that once
walked the Earth!
Click here to see a video of the exhibition!
Fossils and funny bones is free with a ticket to Explore. Children
under three go free.
Prehistoric world
Dress up as a dinosaur and go on the prowl – will you be a flying
ichthyosaur, or a fearsome Tyrannosaurus Rex? Stomp, growl, jump,
and flap your wings in the special costumes!
Around the campfire
‘Of all the shells I’ve seen on the shore, I’ve never seen one like that
before…!’ Listen to the story of Fossil Bay in the dedicated
story-telling area, or join in using the dinosaur puppets. |
 |
Fossil cave
Be an intrepid explorer and crawl through the dark cave, complete with
embedded fossils. What can you see? How do they feel?
Fossil-hunter’s lab tent
Investigate the bones, teeth and fossils under the microscope and see
how they can be measured and sorted. Then design your own dinosaur with
the fun magnetic jigsaws!
Fossil trail
Follow the trail and make brass rubbings of all the different dinosaurs
– can you collect them all?
The exhibition is situated within an enclosed space in Explore.
