On the day
Using Feel the force as part of a visit to Explore At-Bristol
When using Feel the force we suggest that you split your group into
two with one group using the trailcards, while the other group investigates
Explore. After an hour, the groups change activity so that
all the students can experience both a curriculum-focused experience
and free exploration in the exhibition.
There is a limit to how many students can usefully engage with any particular
exhibit. For this reason we recommend that the group using trailcards work in
groups of five or less. To avoid congestion at the exhibits please ensure each
group uses the trailcards in a different order. There is a space on each trail
card to write a number so you can order the trailcards differently for each
group.
To create a trail for each adult helper or teacher, we suggest you print out
each of the trailcards and a large map of the venue. The adult will then be
able to locate the exhibits and prompt the students once at the exhibit.
Practical information
Coaches and transport
Coaches can drop off at the rear of the Explore building. Coach parking
is available on the neighbouring Canon’s Marsh site. Limited parking can be
provided for minibuses for those with special educational needs – call us on
0117 9157777 to make arrangements.
Please be aware that if you arrive in the morning, city centre
traffic can be congested so allow plenty of time for your journey.
Please try to let us know at the earliest opportunity if you will
be more than 10 minutes late.
On arrival
Please take your confirmation letter to the Information desk in Explore
and collect your pre-printed tickets. A member of staff will welcome your group
and brief students.
Coats and bags
There are trolleys in which to leave coats and bags. At-Bristol staff
will allocate each group a trolley at the time of arrival and this can be accessed
for lunch.
During your visit
Explainer staff (in purple shirts) are available to help you make the most
of your visit and are happy to answer questions.
Lunches
Schools who are attending over the lunch period are asked to bring packed lunches.
Snacks and drinks can be purchased from the cafés and vending machines
on site.
Shops
At-Bristol has two shops, one in Explore, the other in Wildwalk.
Both sell a range of exciting and novel educational toys, books and ‘pocket
money’ souvenirs. Please allow extra time if your students might want to visit
the shops.
Accessibility
The buildings are fully accessible to wheelchair users and some areas have
induction loops. The exhibitions have been designed and built to cater for all.
Rules and responsibilities
At-Bristol provides a safe and stimulating educational environment.
Staff are on hand to help you make the most of your visit and provide first
aid assistance if required. Lost students will be looked after at the Information
desks until they are collected.
Please remember that students remain the responsibility of school staff and
accompanying adults at all times. Please do not leave students unaccompanied
in the exhibitions or auditoriums.
We respectfully ask that students don't:
- Run or climb within the buildings.
- Shout or scream.
- Damage the plants or scare the animals.
